Great, useful design puts success in the way of those who use it well.
Are you looking for information about design for marketing? Seeking ideas and inspiration, or help from someone who knows how to put design to commercial use?
You’re in the right place.
This site is for marketing directors, business owners, buyers and fans of graphic design. You can rummage around and get to know my way of design thinking through some of the projects I have created or collaborated on.
I’m Richard Gregory and my area of focus is design for brand communication. My specialism within this field is shifting towards typography; projects since 2017 reflect this.
Why this work matters
Even in this supposed age of media for all, the first visual impression of any kind of organisation says a huge amount about how much they care.
And purposeful design is not just about making something look good, it’s about making something fit to do a specific job. If there is beauty to be found in the work, it’s most powerful when it arises from that need to solve a specific issue.
Why does that matter to you? You can tap into my processes of design-led thinking and doing devised to help your organisation talk credibly about its value to others.
Designers and marketers should influence that thinking. It’s part of my mission to help businesses – perhaps yours — to raise your game when communicating the value of what you do.

I am a designer first, naturally curious, and I find experimentation deep and nourishing…
Designing for industry
I plan and create projects that can turn a business problem on its head. Great, useful design puts success in the way of those who use it well.
You can see how this works through examples and case studies. Take a look at some design commissions.
Staying sharp by making art
I am a naturally curious person. I find experimentation deep and nourishing, like soul food. With that in mind, I keep a separate stream of self-directed works happening alongside my industrial commissions.
Making art helps me to explore new ideas and stay aware of alternatives in media, tools and technologies. It keeps me informed and forward-thinking.
It’s here for you as a source of ideas and entertainment. And there are pieces you can buy.
Thinking out loud
Things seen, innovations, observations, work in progress, ideas that may help you – these things will make their way into my blog.
You can read it right now and you can have it delivered conveniently and securely straight to your inbox.
And there’ll be a newsletter, surprisingly called The Letter. Quarterly-ish, outward-looking, designed, above all, to be helpful. The first issue is set for November 2018 – sign up for The Letter now.
If they’re not for you, It’s dead easy to unsubscribe.
I’m a designer, typographer and creative director with plenty of solid, sales-generating work in the bag.
I’ve run my own practice for over 25 years, serving clients in sectors that include the arts, education, engineering, government and travel.
When I’m not immersed in the visual world, I mess around with music. In decent weather, you might run into me on a Dorset ramble.
